I created this layout at Peta's Retreat (Scrapbooking from Scratch), in what is known as a "blind" scrap.

A blind scrap is where you are given a list of materials you will need, and a set of instructions.

It is then up to you to interpret the instructions as you understand them !

Sounds easy, but it's harder than you think !!!

I found the 2Crafty Follow Dreams Title to be the perfect addition to my blind scrap page !

I have kept the 2Crafty Follow Dreams Title raw to help it stand out from the busy and dark background paper. It also goes nicely with the kraft cardstock. I love how I can use one piece of 2Crafty Chipboard as my layout title - and Vanessa has just made some new ones too ! See this post HERE.

Kaisercraft Sweet Nothings - Angel

Hi Everyone !
I'm back at work today, so I hope this has posted...
Today I bring you a sweet, simple layout using the lovely Kaisercraft Sweet Nothings range.
I also bring you an easy step x step for tying that perfect bow for your layouts (and, as seen on the layout below).

A close up of all the brilliant diecuts that come with this collection. I found it very easy to "build up" my layout with the different pieces.

How to tie a good looking bow...

Step 1: Fold 2 separate loops from the end of your ribbon. You will find it easier with two hands. I folded my loops first and then had to use one hand so I could take the photograph !

Step 2: Now, just as you would tie shoelaces...cross one loop over the other, creating a "hole" underneath (this is where my index finger is in the photo).

Step 3: Bring the crossed over loop through the hole (again just like shoelaces), and let the loose end go. It will probably flop over to the opposite side, but this is what you want !

Step 4: Pull the loops so that a knot forms in the middle. Don't make it too tight, as there is still plenty of fiddling to be done ! Play with the loops and ends, until you are happy with the look, shape and size of your bow.

Step 5: When you are completely happy, snip the ends of your ribbon to give your bow the finished look !

Christmas Mini Album...

A mini album is a great way to use up scrap pieces of paper, ribbon, cardstock, and embellishments !
Here is a Christmas Day 2011 mini album I made using up the last of my October Afternoon Holiday Style DT pack...

And here are just a few detail shots of some of the pages. This was very quick and easy to put together, as I basically just stuck things down as I went, and once a page seemed "finished" or filled, I moved on to the next one.

The photos I have used are quite small. They are "contact sheet" and "passport" size from the Picasa program. The largest photo is wallet size !

As you can see above, I also showed no mercy to some of the word stickers - so that they fit on my pages, I cut them up !

More Christmas Scrapping !

Oh how I have enjoyed scrapping all of this year's Christmas photos !
And it has been so easy with the gorgeous October Afternoon Holiday Style range.
Using up the last pieces of paper and cardstock, I have this layout: Christmas Morning, featuring Jacob.

A close up of the Green Tara Ivory Jute - perfect for tying bows ! And a close up of the chippie iceskate from the OA Holiday Style Miscellany pack, and a few of the word stickers as well.

Here I have used the small word stickers as a version of journaling. I still have quite a few left, and I am working on one final OA Holiday Style project, which I will share when complete !

I hope you're having as much fun scrapping your Christmas and holiday photos as I am !

Birthdays and Christmas Scrapping

Happy 12th Birthday Jacob !

Jacob is currently in New Zealand as a member of the Australian U11-U12 Little Athletics Team, competing in the Trans Tasman Challenge and touring NZ for 2 weeks ! This photo was taken on New Years Day, when he had a few mates over to celebrate !

Isn't this 2Crafty title just the most wonderful saying ! I love it !

And it goes beautifully with this photo of my ever smiley Caden !

I think I couloured and decorated this Laugh Title about 4 or 5 times until I was happy with it ! At one stage it was raw, then red and... finally I settled on black with a white outline. The point being though, this title stood up to the multiple colourings and inkings without the slightest hitch !

A Time & Seasons Step x Step

This is my final Echo Park - Time & Seasons post, and it's my turn for a step x step.
Whilst it's not a Christmas layout, it is all about FAMILY.
It's also one for all you heritage scrappers and genealogists out there :)

Step 1: Choose a base paper or PP1. I have used Yesterday's News.

Step 2: Cut a 30cm x 15cm rectangle using PP2. I have used Astoria. Mount the rectangle on the cardstock, so there is a border of a few mm all the way around. Ink both paper and cardstock if desired.

Step 3: Cut a 13cm x 19cm rectangle using PP3. I have used Lovely Notables. Mount the rectangle on the cardstock, so there is a border of a few mm all the way around. Ink both paper and cardstock if desired.

Step 4: Mount your photo on cardstock, leaving a border of a few mm all the way around. Ink both photo and cardstock if desired. My photo measures 9cm x 13cm. You would adapt the measurements in Step 3 if your photo was larger.

Step 5: Adhere PP2 to PP1 (base) approximately 5.5cm from the top of PP1.

Step 6: Adhere PP3 to PP2 approximately 4cm from the left hand side of PP1, and so the overhang is about the same at the top and bottom of PP2.

Step 7: Adhere large Green Tara Flower to the bottom right hand corner of PP3. Adhere photo to PP3, so that the bottom right hand corner of photo is in the centre of the large flower.

Step 8: Adhere remaining Green Tara Flowers in a cluster. (I played with the colour of my Green Tara Flowers by applying some GlimmerMist in a coffee colour).

Step 9: Adhere Kaisercraft Paper Blooms in another cluster, on top of the Green Tara cluster.

Step 10: Add the Time & Seasons Element Sticker - Old Car and Journaling Tabs. Use Magic Mount under the top journal tab.

Step 11: Add the 2Crafty chipboard as shown. I have inked mine with Pinecone Ink.

Step 12: Add the Time & Seasons Alpha stickers for the title, and the element stickers of your choice. I have used the camera; printed flower; and Family Time banner. Make these pop with Magic Mount, after backing with cardstock. If you don't have a Dymo Labeller you could use mini alpha stickers.

Step 13: Add your jounaling. Remember if you're doing a heritage page, to add as much accurate information as you can !

And you're done...

As you can see, there are not too many steps involved, so perfect for this busy time of year !

A girly page from me this week *gasp* !!!
Though I have used the beautiful blue papers from the Echo Park Time & Seasons Collection.

This is also "Version 3" of the very simple, Friday night scrapping layout...

This time, the pattern papers are vertical and on the right hand side of the page. And to keep things interesting, I have used a splattering of Tattered Angels glimmermist and a Martha Stewart border punch ! Both brands coming soon to Scraploot !

To brighten up the layout, and give it a more "girly feel", I've embellished with gorgeous red organza rosettes by Maya Road, and black twisted burlap by May Arts. The rosettes actually come as a trim, but I got creative and cut mine into individual flowers.

I've also used some fantastic 2Crafty chipboard on the layout. This timeless piece is one half of the Vintage Elise's Dress Form pack. I've kept it raw, to go with the kraft cardstock.

Icecream at Mindil Beach Markets

This is another layout from our recent family holiday in Darwin.
One of the "must do" activities when visiting Darwin is the Mindil Beach Markets. We were surprised to see it's not really about the shopping - it's about food, friends, fun and best of all, amazing sunsets over the beach (yep...it's round the other way in Darwin !).

As this is such a "busy" pattern paper layout, I have treated the 2Crafty Seb's Tree in black ink, to make it pop from the background. To make it a little more interesting, I handcut the leaves in a contrasting pattern paper, and inked the edges.

I chose the Seb's tree for this layout, as we were sitting under a big tree, enjoying a little shade, when this photo was taken ! I wish we had known / understood how it all worked before we went...we didn't even have a blanket or towel to sit on LOL ! But we still had a great time.

They say that when you're on a good thing......stick to it.
So I am.
Not only am I continuing to showcase the fantastic Echo Park Time & Seasons Collection, but I am also hoping to show you, how to get the most out of a layout design (or sketch).
You might think you've seen this weeks layout before, and you'd be right....almost !
Using similar papers and the same layout design (but rotated horizontally), we have TRIKIN'.

By using different embellishments and slightly different placement, you can achieve another great layout, quickly and easily for your Friday night scrapping !
This week, I have used journal cards, tags, large stickers and large flowers for a totally different look !

On this occasion I've used the Echo Park Time & Seasons Alpha Stickers for the title, and once again I have made good use of the element stickers ! I have used a combination of black cardstock and Magic Mount to make the stickers stand out !

Lots of assessing, marking and report writing !

Echo Park - Time & Seasons

Hi Everyone !

Welcome to my first Scraploot blog post.
I hope you've had a wonderful week, but I've got to say TGIF !!!
From Monday - Wednesday I was in Canberra with 164 Year 5 & 6 students.
It was an excellent excursion, but being on duty 24/7 certainly takes it out of you...so I have decided to share with you a very simple, but classy layout that is easy to put together, at the end of a busy week !
Once again, I am showcasing the Echo Park - Time & Seasons Collection.

No. 1 - Layout

As you can see, this layout only uses 1 x cardstock and 2 x pattern papers - very simple, very quick !

The photo is a standard 10x15cm of my No.2 son, but here he is on his No.1 (first) bike / trike. Hence the title - which I was able to achieve uniquely and quite easily, using the element sticker.

Retreat Scrapping

At the end of October, Paula Perry and I were lucky enough to spend a wonderful weekend at the SFS Retreat in the Hunter Valley. We had a fabulous time and got lots of scrapping done ! Finally ! Some scrapping...

Well, it's supposed to be SPRING, but with the crazy weather around the country lately, who would know ?
Play in the Leaves is a tribute to the last days of Autumn, using some fabbo 2Crafty Sweet Pea Stalks, and the gorgeous Seasons range from Crate Paper. I won the Crate Paper Seasons Collection at the LSBS Retreat, so it was nice to put the prize to good use !

The Sweet Pea Stalks have been simply treated with Versa Colour Ink in Turquoise, and then a fine misting with Tattered Angels Dragonfly Glimmermist. What I wanted to highlight today, was how well you can incorporate 2Crafty Chipboard into layers of diecuts. The Sweet Pea Stalks go very nicely with the variety of diecut flowers from the Crate Paper.

Here are some detail shots. I think the colours in this collection are perfect for autumn layouts, and I was pleased I challenged myself to use such a busy background paper.

Although you can't see them very well, Caden actually has thrown some leaves in the air. This was the best shot I could get with him looking "normal" and not having a hand over his face or something like that, AND with some leaves in the air !

LSBS Retreat Layout Share - Final 2 !

These are the final 2 layouts from my LSBS Retreat. The first one was for a challenge. We were all given a WOW Chipboard of our name, and had to use it in the challenge. We also had to use a photo of ourselves.

I coloured my chipboard with Pine Cone ink, and outlined with my white Posca pen.

Again, some twine from The Twinery. This one is called Cappuccino. I also won a packet of gorgeous orange Prima flower centres in the raffle, and used them to "bling up" the page a little. And I used my SBM Masters photo, as that's the one most people probably recognise now. Silly me, forgot to add journalling, but I'll get to that ! I managed to use up another Scrap Fairy gift with this LO, and that is the lovely Basic Grey Nook & Pantry papers, and the Pink Paislee chipboard shapes !

The final layout to share was actually the first one I did, and it's not 100% complete, but I'm not sure if I want to add to it or not ? Carol's example had a title on the LHS... This was Carol's layout class on the Thursday night, using more of her gorgeous Tattered Inspirations.

We made these flowers by hand during the class, and whilst they might look like your run of the mill rolled flowers - they ARE NOT !!! There is a lot of work in these, and they look brilliant ! Without giving Carol's technique away, let's just say a needle and thread and an ability to weave are needed.

More LSBS Retreat Layouts to Share

This was my attempt at using Lauren's techniques on a layout ! I think it looks great - so bright and colourful - but I am probably biased LOL !

These gorgeous stickers and papers were once again from Echo Park - Summer Days Collection.

I just adore how well these cousin's get on. They just love one another to bits ! And what's more, they both take a wonderful photo !

I would love to take credit for the next layout, but I can't :(

My wonderful new friend Nicole Westerholm made this page in our photo swap. I completed a page for Anna for the swap, but unfortunately didn't get a picture of it.

Thank you Nicole - you did an awesome job and I love it ! Caden loves it too !

This next layout went together pretty quickly, as I found the papers and photo together in what I can only assume was a feeble attempt at some type of "kit". It could probably use a few more embellies, but it will do for now as another page for the album !

You may have noticed that on a lot of my layouts I am using twine. I am really loving this look at the moment, as well as all the great twine colours. This one is Lemon Drop by The Twinery. It's a gorgeous yellow !

I'm pretty sure the papers and die cut are all MME Alphabet Soup - Boy. That's how long the kit sat in the tote for ! Love the photo. We were amazed that Caden could even fit through Grandma's doggy door. Both it, and the dogs are really quite small !

I still have 2 layouts to share and then that's it for now ! Be back tomorrow with those final 2.

LSBS Retreat Layout Share cont...

Some more retreat layouts - this time both were for challenges. This first one was for a travel / holiday type page. I finally scrapped a photo from our Bendigo trip last year ! I got 3rd place for this layout !

I also finally started using the Simple Stories - Destinations pack that I have had stashed away for far too long ! I love all of the ephemera and stickers that came with it !

The journalling just describes how Jacob and I pretty much went past this fountain at least twice a day, everyday for the duration of our trip, and how pretty it is. Loving these post card papers in the pack !

For the next layout, we had to use at least one of the gifts we'd received from the Scrap Fairy. This layout couldn't have been more simple if I tried, and I think it took all of 10 minutes to complete ! Got to be happy with that ?

It always helps to have a gorgeous photo too ! This layout was chosen as the winner, and I received a lovely Crate Paper Collection prize.

I used the Kaisercraft Rubon from the Scrap Fairy, and the foam Thickers left over from Anna's Card Class.

I also used some gorgeous purple and blue glimmermist together for the background, and the bright stickers are from Echo Park's Summer Days range ! Nearly all of my layouts used gifts from the Scrap Fairy. When Cath tells you to pack your stash, and then cull by half she really isn't kidding ! Next year I am taking some card stock, my tools and a few embellies...I really won't need anything more !

LSBS Retreat Layout Share

This layout was a class layout taught by my hugely talented fellow SBM Master Lauren Bell. I love how it "pops" off the page both literally and with the choice of colours !

I got to experience "Glubers" for the first time, in making this very cute flower accent ! And can you believe we actually received a whole packet of Glubers, so I still have plenty left to play some more !

I am absolutely loving these small wooden alphas by Twidleybitz. My only criticism would be there needs to be more in the packets - I pretty much used all mine up ! Thanks for a great class Lauren.

There were several challenges set for the duration of the retreat, and one of them was to create a heritage layout. This is mine, and I got 3rd place ! It's a photo of my mum, maybe around 8-10yrs old ?

Whilst the background and flower paper are Basic Grey Curio, much of the ephemera and vintagey things are from a gorgeous little kit by Carol Mead and her business Tattered Inspirations.

I will have more of Carol's gorgeous kits to show soon - we were lucky enough to have her teach a class on the Thursday night, and I bought a few to share with my friends as well !

My Martha Stewart Butterfly punch is certainly getting a workout - great investment that !

LSBS Retreat 2011 - What Is Old Is New Again

Recently, I was lucky enough to attend the Little Scrapbook Shop 2011 Retreat. As it was my first time, I'll be honest and say I was a little nervous and apprehensive - especially as once again - I decided to go alone !
I had met some of the LSBS girls at Camp Mojo, but only fleetingly, and although I have been an LSBS forum member for quite some time I'm not a huge chatterer - so it was all new to me !
I needn't have worried...

From the moment I arrived I felt welcome.
Although the big fat ass "L" plate on my chair was something of a surprise, I couldn't have asked for a better seat in the room, or for better table mates. I think Table 3 rocked it !!!
Hi Helen, Kim, Nicole, Karyn, Jenny, Carol and Kristin !

They say what happens at retreat, stays at retreat, so who am I to go against the rules...all I will say is there are certain signs that tell you you're on a good retreat, and I should know, I have been on a lot of them!
LSBS retreat had HEAPS of these signs, but for me the stand out sign was the layout count...

8 layouts of my own,
2 layouts from classes,
1 layout for a photo swap, and
1 otp from a class - as seen below...

This was a card class by Anna (LSBS DT), and we got such a generous class kit I couldn't believe my eyes !
We only made this one, but there was enough product and instructions for at least 7 different cards and small card / gift holders like this one !

So thank you Cath, Nicole, DT and LSBS ladies for a most wonderful retreat. I had an awesome time, and I really can't wait to do it all again in 2012. Thanks Dani for being a fantastic roomie, it was great to meet you. Thanks Shelley for organising Secret Squirrel, and thanks to my Secret Squirrel for the awesome gifts !!!

Life's Journey - Layout Share

The journey of life definitely has it's ups and downs !
And so does athletics.
That's why I have chosen the 2Crafty Life's Journey Title for this page of Jacob.
Jacob's life has certainly been enriched by his journey with athletics - the people he has met, the places he has been, and the achievements he has made...

I've kept the Life's Journey title raw for this page, as I have lots of things happening behind it. I also think it stands out a little more against the darker background paper. I remember taking these photos of Jacob and a team mate Josh, they were fooling around on the practice track dais...but having lots of fun and boosting one another's confidence for the events ahead !

Jacob will compete in the National Athletics Carnival from 15-19 September in Darwin !

I am bound to have lots more photos and memories to add to his Life's Journey, and share with you all.

Camp Mojo - Part 2

It wouldn't have been Camp Mojo without any scrapping now would it ?
And although as indicated in my last post, my MOJO seemed to be awol, I did manage to complete a few layouts...

This was for a challenge using orange and diecuts. I won a prize for this, coming in second to one Ebony van der Starre (Hi Ebs !). Prize or not, I love this layout for the photo. I recently realised when Brett's grandmother died, that I only had one photo of her with each of my boys... to me that was pretty sad. So on my last visit home, I made sure I got the boys to have some photos with their grandma, and their great grandma - or as the layout says - Oma !

This was for another challenge - NO STRAIGHT EDGES - including the photos ! I didn't do any good in this challenge, but I don't think the layout is finished yet either...I can see room for further improvement ! I love how the glimmermist ran down the page though. I find it quite amazing how different brands, and diffrent bottles all behave in different ways on the paper !

I did do 2 more layouts and an off the page, but one of the layouts was for the fabulous Lou Nelson, and I forgot to photograph it before handing it over ! And the other layout you will see on the 5th as it's for 2Crafty. My OTP is not quite finished, so I'll show that at some stage too LOL !

Camp Mojo - Part 1

Well Camp Mojo has been and gone, and I did have a wonderful time even though:

* I badly sprained my ankle on the Tuesday night before it started.
* The drive up was in all the horrendous rain of the East Coast low.
* My villa mates accidentally locked me out on the first night !
* And my scrapping mojo really went awol - think I had stage fright LOL !

I did however, get to do a class with this talented lady...

and who would have thought I could make such pretty cards ! Thank you Jane !

I enjoyed the card class immensely, and it was great to learn some new techniques, and be allowed the opportunity to "play" with them. I hope I can try this again at home with the same success !

I also took classes with Sarah Gladman and Sherry Mendoza, but unfortunately, due to my slow snail pace, I didn't finish either of these. Hopefully I can over the next week or so, because they were really clever and creative classes !

One of the features of Camp Mojo was an auction to raise money for the "Make A Wish Foundation". There were several beautiful canvases donated for the cause, including one by Tim Holtz ! I was pleased to support the auction, and came away with the this gorgeous little canvas by Claudine Hellmuth - love it - and it's the perfect addition to my scraproom !

Seems only fitting that my White With 1 entry, features the birthday boy !

Sorry for the poor lighting - it has been a grey couple of days here !

Really enjoyed this challenge, and this colour scheme in particular.

The rolled corner and clock face, along with some mist and splats of glimmermist...

This gorgeous colour is called "Dragonfly".

The multiple transparencies...went a little nuts with them LOL !

And my new mask - just love how that turned out.

Can't forget the chipboard !

A very useful "two" from none other than 2Crafty !

And some beautiful crochet lace from Prima !

A couple of monarch butterflies, another transparency, and a tiny library clip from Stampin' Up.

The birthday party has come and gone, and was a big success.

Party Favours...

Tomorrow we are having a birthday party for Caden...he will have both sets of grandparents here, an aunt and uncle from both sides of the family, along with some cousins, his brother and his parents... it's going to be a big day !

Caden's actual birthday is this Thursday (21 July), but as I will be at Camp Mojo, it's all happening now ! One good thing about Thursday though, is I won't have to rush as it doesn't start until after 2pm. I can have a slow morning, take Caden to daycare at my leisure, and we can share out his lolly boxes...

I have made 28 lolly boxes - one for every child in the class and the 4 teachers ! These are not quite as elaborate as a prototype I made, but I decided if I had to do 28, simpler was better !

I ummed and ahhed about how to close them, especially as they are for small children, but in the end, although 4 have string, I settled for the staple. It was just easier and less time consuming. I will make a note that parents should open the lolly boxes !

I have used the Sizzix Milk Carton Die, and some gorgeous little stamps from Stampin' Up. I love that I got to use up some of my stash and scraps too !
Happy 3rd Birthday Caden ! (Even if it is going to be a week long ! LOL !)

Xpress It Clear Gel Glue...

Gets a HUGE thumbs up from me !!! If you loved the OLD Pritt glue, then you simply MUST try Xpress It Clear Gel Glue.
It has that same lovely thick consistency as OLD Pritt, and it dries in no time flat !

I don't work for Xpress It, nor did anyone ask me or pay me (LOL) to write this... I just know a good scrappy thing when I'm onto it ! I really like it !

I got my first bottle at the Brisbane Scrapbooking Expo last month, and to be honest, haven't found a lot of Aussie stockists online - perhaps that will change once the word spreads ? So far I have found it at Anna's Craft Cupboard and Scrapbook Megastore and before you ask, YES, I have put in an order for more !

Xpress It Clear Gel Glue retails from $8 - $9, depending on where you buy it from, but I honestly believe it is worth every cent ! I even love the nozzle, as it doesn't clog up like some glues...I have yet to stick a pin in, and that's even after leaving the lid off for a night ! So if you're looking for a Pritt replacement or just ready to try something new - give this a go !

Sew Special...

A cute little card using the gorgeous 2Crafty Sewing Kit and a really bad play on words ! GROAN LOL !

Super quick and easy to put together - 1 x cardstock, 1 x pattern paper, 1 x doiley, twine, a punch, a few alpha stickers... and of course, the Sewing Kit ! The Sewing Kit also includes scissors and two more buttons - but I am saving those for another card idea !

I have painted the spool, needle and buttons with Champagne Glimmer Paint from Stampin' Up, and the background paper is the fab new Out of Print by Basic Grey. I simply glued the twine to the chipboard thread on the needle and spool.

Sizzix Masters Challenge

One of my amazing Masters prizes was a Big Shot Cutting Machine, along with a gorgeous carry case, some dies and embossing folders. So I guess it was only logical that one of our challenges would be to use them.

I have never owned a die cutting machine before, so it was very exciting and challenging at the same time.

We were given some additional dies for the challenge, as well as some embossing folders (which I have used in a subsequent challenge). After figuring it all out, here's my layout for the challenge:

I used the gorgeous Marjorlaine Range from Basic Grey, and I think the beautiful Prima flower was just the right finishing touch ! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the photo of Caden and Jacob - it is a perfect example of the special bond of brotherhood they share !

Jacob Alexander...

Have you tried working with Printer's Trays ? (or similar)
Until recently, I hadn't either !
My very first one, which you can see in this post HERE is technically referred to by Kaisercraft as a "photo display".
But just recently, Collections Elements released some gorgeous mini chipboard Printer's Trays, and I just knew I had to try them... I have made one for each of my boys.

Today, in honour of his most outstanding achievement at the NSW PSSA State Athletics Team trials, I will share Jacob's with you. For those not on FB, Jacob trialled for high jump and long jump. He came 4th in high jump (first reserve) and 3rd in long jump. His long jump result puts him into the NSW team to compete at the National Athletics Carnival in Darwin NT, in September !
So very proud !

These trays were really quite easy to put together, and were finished in no time at all. I think the longest part was the waiting for the paint to dry ! I have used an assortment of papers and embellishments, including Crate Paper Toy Box; October Afternoon; Jenni Bowlin; Kaisercraft; Echo Park and 2Crafty.

Scrapbooking Expo 2011

Well... what a weekend !
I had a great time with Paula Perry and Michelle Sturrock at the 2011 Scrapbooking and Papercraft Expo and Convention in Brisbane, over the long weekend.
I got to meet lots of lovely people in the scrapping world, including my fellow Masters - Tatum Woodroffe; Kerryn Leworthy; Kathleen Glossop; Lauren Bell and the gorgeous Tiff Sawyer !

Here's Tiff presenting her talk on using recycled materials in your work. She made a very funky mini album !

Meanwhile, Tatum, her sister Lauren Boase, Kerryn and Kathleen went "felting", and entered a scarf decorating competition....Tatum WON !!! The prize was a felting machine !

I also participated in 2 classes, taught by the most amazing lady, my good friend Louise Nelson !

It was fantastic to catch up with her again, and BOY, were her classes AWESOME.

I still need to finish my layouts, but I learned so much - Thanks Lou !

I also got to see the Masters Gallery - still not 100% on the layouts I sent in, but as my Masters entries still haven't turned up, I had to make some difficult decisions -

Sorry about the funny angles - I had to account for the hordes of admirers all walking around, taking in, and photographing all of the gorgeous Masters works ! I took these more so I could show Jacob and Caden, and tell them how "famous" they are LOL !

I also got to meet the extremely talented Sherry Mendoza, Jane Clark and Lynette Van Barello in the Scrapbooking Memories Studio. It will be wonderful to chat with them some more next month at Camp Mojo ! Speaking of the studio - I presented a talk about genealogy, family trees and scrapping. All three talks went really really well. The last day was a lot quieter, but I think the audience appreciated the individual attention - especially those with questions ! I also had some small giveaways of fantastic 2Crafty Chipboard, for the ladies at my talks...a lovely surprise I was told !

Kraft It Up - June

This is my last Kraft It Up page as a member of their creative team... and it's great that my other design team - 2Crafty is sponsoring this challenge! This month's challenge is to create a page using Kraft (of course), that shows some type of timeline.

Sandcastle Stomp features a fantastic Jacqui's Corner Flourish, which I think can easily double as waves or water splashes, and the timeline is Caden, stomping on his sandcastle !

I've also used some of the new Echo Park "Splash" papers, which are perfect for scrapping those summer layouts...might just keep you warm, now that winter is here !

The flourish has been treated with Water Slide and Marshmallow glimmermist, and adds just enough dimension to support the sub title of the page.

Kraft It Up - June Sneak Peek

Just to add - I've been seeing this gauze / muslin in a lot of layouts recently, and thought I'd have a go. Let's just say, I love the look even if I don't get it quite right, and we know have one less bandage in our first aid kit ! Bwhahahahahahahaha !!!

This will be my final layout for Kraft It Up, as my CT term has now ended.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at KIU, and hope it continues to go from stength to strength !

Kaszazz Master's Challenge

For the Kaszazz challenge we received a generous pack of very feminine papers, and a ton of rubber stamps (amongst other things)! I enjoyed using these products - especially the papers, as they were quite thick and rolled really nicely. I tried to combine the old fashioned, shabby chic look with quite a modern photo - not sure if I quite got there LOL !

I had to sneak in this gorgeous Prima flower. It just made the layout come to life. I found the bling flourish to be one of the easiest to apply I have ever come across ! Well done Kaszazz !

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this birdcage stamp ! So pretty and elegant !

I think that's all the tasks I can show for the time being - don't want to get into trouble !

Thanks for the lovely comments I have been receiving too. I really appreciate it, and I know I don't always reciprocate it (one of the hazards of working full-time I guess ?), so thank you !

Scrapbooking & Papercraft Expo 2011

I stumbled into genealogy about 12 years ago now, and it was my first "addiction". It's wonderful that my craft addiction (scrapbooking), complimented it so well ! LOL ! I have made many heritage and vintage layouts and OTP's, and even an A-Z Family History Album...

I will be talking "all things scrapping, heritage & genealogy" at the 2011 Scrapbook & Papercraft Expo & Convention in Brisbane over the June long weekend (11-13 June). My presentation is 3pm daily, at the Scrapbooking Memories Magazine stand. Would love for you to pop by !

Graphic 45 Masters Challenge

The second Masters Challenge we were given was for Graphic 45, using their Boardwalk Collection.
I have long been a fan of Graphic 45 papers, as they are so uniquely different.
I think they are also quite challenging to work with at times too !
I decided to tackle this assignment with lots of cutwork and foam tape !

There are at least 5 different sheets of paper used in this layout, plus all of the diecuts ! I am very proud of this layout, and how it turned out. I really don't think the photos do it justice !

Stampin' Up Masters Challenge

The first Masters Challenge was for Stampin' Up. We received what I can only describe as an extremely generous pack to make our layouts. I must admit, that I was very overwhelmed, and wasn't sure if I was meant to try and use a bit of everything, or just focus on one or two things. My confusion gave way to what I believe is probably one of my simplest layouts....ever !

I really liked the Stampin' Up products - the papers were nice colours for scrapping boys !

I also loved the pack of stamps we got too !

This was my first attempt at one of these rosette type flowers - I thought it turned out quite well, even if I did cut the edges to give that zig zag effect !

And here's the layout in full. Simple. Clean lines, and a really good photo !

I was pretty chuffed to see my layout had been turned into a sketch, for the free handout that month too - another first for me !

The alphas here are 2Crafty, and painted with a gorgeous Champagne Mist All Purpose Ink / Shimmer Paint - if you like all things glimmermist, then you really should try some of this from Stampin' Up ! You can find them on pg 143 of the 2010-2011 Ideas and Product Catalogue.

In regard to my post about my Masters Entries, thanks for the kind comments. To answer some of your questions...The response from Australia Post has been absolutely AWFUL ! Basically, because the parcel was sent via regular mail, there is apparently no way to trace it, and no one I have spoken to (at Aus Post) seems to give a toss. As far as they are concerned, the case is closed. Oh, and get this...apparently, if they were delivered to the wrong house, the parcel is still considered by Aus Post as "delivered" WTF ??? So as I see it, my entries are either sitting somewhere in an Aus Post depot OR they were delivered to a complete stranger who has either kept them, or thrown them in the bin ! Nice huh ?

2Crafty Share - Happy Birthday !

I forgot to share this from a couple of weeks back...
Still in card making mode ! And still using the gorgeous Echo Park Springtime papers, and sensational 2Crafty chipboard.

Today's card features some delightful 2Crafty Flowers and a Scalloped Circle Frame. All have been treated with Versa Colour Inks in matching colours to the paper, and then lightly sprayed with Marshmellow Glimmermist for a little sparkle !

Again I have added some cardstock stickers and a Kaisercraft rubon sentiment. I used some foam dots to make the butterflies "fly", and a gel pen to draw their flight !

It's only just occurred to me that unless you are a subscriber or a regular buyer of Scrapbooking Memories Magazine, you will not have seen what I have been up to !!! So I should really be posting all of my creations (as allowed) on my blog....DOH ! (said in my best Homer Simpson voice).

As many of you are aware, Australia Post LOST my Masters Entries ! I have a few pictures, but unfortunately they are not that good ! I am hoping Kristy or Cassie will come good on the offer of high res photos from the Masters Magazine shoot - but in the meantime, here they are:

In case you're wondering - yes, I did hand sew in matching colours, over the sewn pattern on the paper !

I really wish this one came back - we still have laundry issues !

It was great to be able to do a layout on my other "addiction".

Yes you heard right, it is time for us to have some new members on the Creative Team!!!

Sadly we have to say goodbye to some of our gorgeous CT who have almost finished their time with KIU, I would love to keep them all and more but it isn't possible...

So if you would like to become a CT Member for KIU this is what you have to do...

* Create two layouts specifically for this CT Call...

(1) This layout needs to showcase your scrapping style and of course needs to be created with Kraft or Kraft Patterned Paper.

(2) You need to create a layout using one or more of these criteria, also on Kraft or Kraft Patterned Paper...
* Distressing
* White Space (also known as negative space or a minimalistic layout)
* Multiple Photos
* Layering
* Arty techniques - glimmermists, paints, doodling, masking

I've said it many times before, that I don't really consider myself much of a cardmaker...but with a 2Crafty Frame (and new release at that !) I am enjoying card making more and more !

I have treated the beautifully ornate oval frame with Versa Colour Inks and Folk Art Glass Finish. I have added some doilies, and used the gorgeous Echo Park Springtime Papers !

A Prima flower, some Echo Park Springtime cardstock sticker butterflies, and a Kaisercraft Girl rubon complete the card ! Now to find someone to give it to...........

Thanks to an upcoming Masters Challenge, I've been having a go at "mixed media" pieces this week. I don't think I have ever "purposely" created a mixed media piece before, so this was quite new to me...but a lot of fun as well !

I decided to keep it small for a first attempt, and so made a wall plaque, which is about 13 x 18cm in size.

I used paint, glimmermist, irridescent paint, texture paste and alcohol inks to create my background, and decorated the 2Crafty Chandalier 2 with black paint, gold and red irridescent paint (just a hint), and finished it off with a glass effect finish.

To pretty it up, I added some Prima flowers and to give it attitude (as the title suggests) I used a Kaisercraft Girl rubon. I also added some Jenni Bowlin butterflies and drew their flight path with a gel pen !

I love how the Chandalier 2, inspired the whole piece - I wanted classy but a bit grungy at the same time, and in my opinion - it delivered ! Oh, and by the way...my Masters creation is NOTHING like this one, so you'll have to keep an eye out for that ! LOL !

Kraft It Up April challenge is a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 challenge, you must create a layout based on the following...

1 piece of Kraft cardstock
2 photos smaller than 6x4
3 different Alphas
4 different patterned papers (yes you can use the reverse side of one sheet as long as the pattern is different)
5 different embellishments

** Paint, Mists, Distressing and any other technique based creating are not classed as embellishments, you can still use these of course but they do not count as your 5 embellishments, you need to think chipboard, ribbon, twine, journal blocks, flowers, buttons, jewels/bling, pins, tapes, stickers, handmade embellishments, paper clips, lace, tabs, diecuts etc...

A bright and colourful layout to start the week, using some gorgeous Echo Park Playground papers, and fabulous 2Crafty Date Plates.

I have inked the words with black ink, and then gone around the edges of the plates. For a different looks and added dimension, I have used my dymo labeller for the journaling.

An elegant, but simple greeting card from me this week !
The card features the three piece 2Crafty Wine Bottle set.

I have treated the chipboard with pine cone ink, and darkened it on one side to show depth.

I have also added some white gel pen high lights.

As you can see, I have used the lovely Cosmo Cricket - Circa 1934 papers, and my Martha Stewart doily punch AGAIN ! I really love these colours (classic combo) and the effect of the punch.

I am loving the new CHA Winter releases that are family history orientated ! I can't ever remember being so spoiled for choice (and that's only if you want new release).

Are all new additions to my stash, and I am having fun !

Whilst some of these are traditional colours and patterns, I am really loving the opportunity to do what I call "modern heritage". Using bright colours and bold patterns with old photographs is certainly very different from my usual heritage style !

Unfortunately...you'll have to wait to see what I created, as it will accompany a feature I have done for Scrapbooking Memories Magazine (but that's coming up real soon *wink* !) In the meantime, I will leave you with this 2Crafty share, which is a more traditional heritage page, and features a Lucy's Flourish Frame.

This page uses Cosmo Cricket - Circa 1934 papers with just a hint of the Echo Park - For the Record collection thrown in for good measure !
I'm also really taken with painted backgrounds and the Martha Stewart Doily Punch at the moment !

This is a very special layout, I created toward the end of the school holidays. It also features a couple of 2Crafty pieces.

For those who don't know, my niece Laura, was stillborn in November last year. It was a tragic turn of events, and a most devastating blow to my sister and her husband. I have been trying to spend more time with my sister, and sometimes it's the little things, we often take for granted, that help the most...

I'm not much of a card maker, but I found this one came together quite quickly and easily...and I really like it ! I think it would be a perfect card for a teacher (*wink*) !
I have used one of the very cute 2Crafty Apples. These come in a pack of 4, with two full apples (small and large) and two apples with a bite out of them (again small and large).
I have also used a Circle Frame, which fitted perfectly on the paper doily !
Both have been coloured with red ink, glimmermist, and dimensional magic.

The little dimple in the apple has been coloured with a white pen.

I can't think of a better LO to share with you on such a "stinker" of a day !
Here in Sydney, it has reached 42'C...YUCKO !!!

I have used some delightful 2Crafty Swirl 1 pieces to emulate the waves of the beach, and I have decorated them with Kindyglitz. I have also used the very cute MME Alphabet Soup Girl papers and accessories.

KIU February Take 2

Here is the original LO I created for the February KIU challenge.
As I said, it's not that I don't like it...it's just different.
Hubby loves it ! He likes pages that "fill up" the page - obviously not a fan of white space LOL !!!

I must say though...I absolutely LOVE this photo of Caden.

It was taken just on dusk at the beach, and all I have done to it is hit "fix exposure" on my editing program !

Very happy with the outcome ! I've also journalled like a madwoman...all over he place LOL !!!

And, not sure if it's the done thing...but I have sliced up a 2Crafty Moroccan Border to make two smaller embellishments on the page. Not sure how and why, but I think they really suit these pages ?

Kraft It Up - February

We spent some time away over Christmas, on the North Coast, and it included many trips to the beach - always a great opportunity for photographs ! Here I have used the 2Crafty Artic Swirl to emulate the waves.
I have even tried for additional dimension by not adhering the smaller swirls down !

I have used Glimmer Glam and Paint to create the colour and texture on the swirls, and I have used the Seaside Collection of papers and embellies from October Afternoon.

Sometimes...bare is beautiful.
I ummed and ahhhed about this fabulous Rustic Tree (which could easily double as my mother's lemon tree !), and what I could do with it for a very long time, but in the end, I settled on raw. I think it compliments the other vibrant colours quite nicely. It draws the eye, but doesn't take away from the photo (which is one of my absolute favourites from 2010 !)

I also included a very cute 2Crafty Button as my flower centre.

Once again, I have used some very lovely Echo Park Papers - I think these are a combination of Sweet Summertime and Life Is Good ? Regardless, they are gorgeous (especially that green) !

The Silly Season !

Well, it's almost over for another year... can you believe we are going into 2011 ?
I cannot fathom just how fast 2010 has passed.
I hope you all had a most wonderful Christmas with family and friends (and in our case, chicken pox !)
Thankfully, only a very mild case, but enough for us to have to stay at home. It was kind of nice being "forced" to rest, and not have to drive anywhere...

This is my favourite photo from this Christmas - Jacob and Caden in their santa hats !

Getting this pic was a lot easier than I anticipated... perhaps my models are used to me by now LOL !

I have also been playing along at the Scrapbook Savvy December Cybercrop.

This is my LO for Kerryn's challenge - I loved Kerryn's LO so much I think I may have scraplifted a little ?

Sorry Kerryn, but what a fab challenge. I'm going to do one for Jacob too !

Regular readers of my blog or facebook statuses would know that my eldest boy Jacob, is quite an athlete...little brother Caden however, may just give him a run for his money !
I made a scraplift of Jacob's "My Little Champ" page, for Caden so they could both have an exciting, sporty page in their albums.
I also really loved the Crate Paper School Spirit range of papers and accessories LOL !
Hence the layout "KICK", using the very handy and versatile 2Crafty 6 x 6 chipboard word sheets - in this case, the one for footy. I have discovered since, that amongst the many sports and activities covered, there is one specifically for soccer too !

A couple of months ago, I was very lucky to attend the Scrapbooking from Scratch retreat, hosted by Peta McBeth. I had a fabulous time, and got a few things done, but haven't shared yet... OOoooppsss!

One of the things I created was an album cover page. This was inspired by fellow Master, Fran Tynan, and an article she had written about in Scrapbooking Memories. I had wanted to try it ever since I saw Fran's awesome examples, and I am so glad that I got the opportunity at retreat !

Forever Always December Sketch

Here are some photo's of Jacob's trip to Bendigo:

Being introduced to the crowd for the U10 Boys Long Jump event.

Long jump - Jacob jumped a PB of 4.74m

That was enough to secure him the Silver Medal ! Congratulations Jacob !!!

Jacob managed to swap all of the friendship pins - this is a great idea and a wonderful way to meet new people and make new friends !

Jacob also competed in the U10 Boys Multi - Event.

This included shot put, long jump, 100m and 800m.

Jacob came 5th overall in the Multi - Event !

He was also in a Long Jump Relay. All of the boys in the team have 2 jumps, but only the best 4 jumps are recorded for the team. They are added together, and the highest score wins.

NSW U10 Boys came 1st !!!

So very proud of you Jacob ! Well done sweety !

We love you !

Masters 2010, and other stuff...

Well the cat is well and truly out of the bag... I have been chosen as a Scrapbooking Memories Master for the next 12 months ! I am truly humbled and honoured to have been selected, and I look forward to the journey ahead.

We have just returned from a week in Bendigo, attending the National Athletics Championships.
Jacob jumped an amazing PB of 4.74m to take the silver medal in the U10 Boys Long Jump.

I attended the funeral of my beautiful niece Laura, last week, and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Whilst the service was lovely, I really don't want to have to do that again. I tried hard to be strong, but it was just too sad. Tina and Matt are as well as you could expect under the circumstances. Thank you to my wonderful friends for their support over the last few weeks.

This month at Kraft It Up we are on the look out for some funky and inspirational ways to jazz up your pages using Decorative Edges….

So we need you to use KRAFT and some way to add DECORATIVE EDGES to your layout….
Think punches, scissors, diecut strips (Sass Lass papers are a good example of these) Diecut papers, specialty ribbons (pom poms) and crocheted trims just to name a few.

When it comes to Jacob and his athletics...I couldn't have asked for a more appropriate piece of 2Crafty chipboard ! I am also LOVING the new Crate Paper School Spirit Collection ! WOW !

I have used the My Little Champ graphic wordlet as my title on this layout.
It has been sprayed with glimmermist in "Frozen Lake", and I have coloured the #1 with a white pen.
I really love this page, and my boy....GO JACOB !!!

Jacob will compete at the NSW PSSA State Athletics Carnival at Homebush, on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st October 2010. He will compete in the Junior Boys Long Jump and High Jump.
Not sure how he'll go, but I'm a proud mum anyway !

Not to be outdone by his older brother, I have also scrapped a layout of Caden for Charm's October sketch challenge at Bon's Scraps. I have turned the sketch upside down, and gone for a 12x12 size.

I have my 3 arrows - 2 here, and 1 in my cluster !

Here is my date cluster, with 3 or more different embellishments (stickers, brad, tape, staple).

I enjoyed creating this page - Thanks for the challenge Charm !

You - Latest 2Crafty Project

For those who know me, you'll know I have two boys...two very "boy" boys, so this girly layout thing, is still something I am getting used to, and playing around with. The fact that come Christmas time I will have eight nieces (yes, you read correctly), has nothing to do with it LOL !!! Well, maybe a little...

Ariel's Spray is a gorgeous piece that will look great on any layout, but seems to work so well on girly projects. It's flourish is elegant, a very nice size for the 12x12 page, and compliments other embellishments (such as these Prima flowers) so very well !

I have used the new lower case alphas on this layout, and whilst mine is not as elaborate, I have taken inspiration from Kerryn's last project, trying to give depth to the alphas. I have glimmermisted the alphas and spray in "Sunshine", and then inked in the deeper colour of "topaz" !

Thanks for the inspiration Kerryn ! Hope this has inspired some of you out there as well !

Happy Sunday everyone ! It's a glorious spring day here in Sydney, and I'm itching to create with more lovely goodies from 2Crafty. I hope wherever you are, and whatever the weather, you can be creative too !
Here's what I've been up to...

You might remember a while back, I commented on the popularity of "banners" or "bunting" in scrapbooking lately - well, here's some more ! This time I have used the 2Crafty Flag Banners. I have only used 5, but they come in a very generous pack of 8 ! I have simply covered the flags in pattern paper, and inked the edges.

I have also used some new release alphas in my title (so new, there's no link yet !), but aren't they just gorgeous ? This font comes in upper and lowercase, and really is the perfect size for layouts ! I have just inked these letters with the same colour ink as the banners.
